Maruti Suzuki Gujarat Plant Surpasses 30 Lakh Cumulative Production Milestone in India

The Baleno, Swift, Dzire, Fronx, and Tour S make up the list of models that Maruti Suzuki currently manufactures at the Gujarat plant. The facility, located in Hansalpur, has a yearly manufacturing capacity of 7.50 lakh units.

Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG), a Maruti Suzuki subsidiary, has reached the production milestone of 30 lakh units after six years and 11 months of its operations, which began in February 2017. The plant not only manufactures vehicles for the domestic market but also caters to overseas markets. The production of the export models commenced in March 2018. Reflecting on the latest milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, ‘We are delighted to reach the 3 million cumulative production milestone in Gujarat. This has been possible because of a supportive ecosystem provided for manufacturing activities in the state. We thank our supplier partners who have invested and collaborated to ramp up production at the facility. I express my gratitude to all the employees of Suzuki Motor Gujarat, whose contribution has been instrumental in achieving this landmark.’

The facility, located in Hansalpur, Gujarat, has a yearly manufacturing capacity of 7.50 lakh units. The first production milestone of 10 lakh units – manufactured in three separate sections: plant A, plant B, and plant C – was attained in October 2020, followed by the milestone of 20 lakh units in August last year. Notably, the last 10 lakh units were produced in around 17 months. The company manufactures various models, which include the Baleno, Swift, Dzire, Fronx, and Tour S, at the said plant.

Additionally, according to Hisashi Takeuchi, this facility will meet the company's future demands for electric mobility, and Maruti Suzuki EV production will begin there in FY 2024-25. He further revealed that this plant handled 50 per cent of Maruti Suzuki's total vehicle exports in the fiscal year 2022-23. ‘With the acquisition of Suzuki Motor Gujarat, we are further enhancing our production flexibility. The production of our battery electric vehicles will also be undertaken at the Gujarat plant and is expected to start in FY 2024-25,’ he remarked.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Thunder Edition: Price Range

Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki has launched a new special edition of the Jimny, called the Thunder Edition, Indian, which is available in both Zeta and Alpha versions. The Jimny Thunder Edition costs between Rs 10.74 lakh and Rs 14.05 lakh (ex-showroom) and features visual upgrades over the standard model. Its biggest highlight, however, is that it costs between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh less than the standard Jimny, depending on the model.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Thunder Edition: Visual Updates and Powertrain

The Thunder Edition comes with a few noticeable cosmetic upgrades, which include a faux bull-bar style front bumper accessory with a silver finish, bonnet trim pieces, metal fenders plates, door decals, door cladding, a metal skid plate, door visors, and more trimming on the wing mirror caps. The external styling of the limited-run model is identical to that of the base Jimny with the 'Summit Seeker' package.

The Jimny SUV is still powered by the reliable 1.5-litre K15 petrol engine, which produces 134Nm of peak torque and 101bhp of maximum power. Customers have the option of a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission, and all models come with low-range four-wheel drive.
