Maruti Suzuki has officially confirmed that it sold 1,72,535 units in January 2023, representing a month-on-month (MoM) increase in sales of nearly 12 per cent over the 1,54,379 units sold in January last year. Out of the total 1.73 lakh cars sold by Maruti Suzuki, domestic sales accounted for 1,51,367 units, sales to other OEMs accounted for 3,775 units, and the remaining 17,393 units were exported to other markets. The firm also claimed that the scarcity of electronic components had a minor impact on vehicle production, primarily in domestic models. It asserts that Maruti Suzuki vehicles made up 7 out of the top 10 selling models in India in January 2023, taking the top 4 spots. Last month, the Wagon R, the Swift, and the Baleno were the top-selling vehicles in India, with the Maruti Suzuki Alto coming in second. Additionally, the company's market share in the SUV sector increased from 10.9 to 15 per cent.
The new-generation Brezza and the Grand Vitara hybrid SUV were launched last year, which can be credited with the growth of the SUV market. The Jimny 5-door and the Fronx crossover were two new SUVs introduced by Maruti Suzuki at the Auto Expo 2023 last month. According to the company, these vehicles will aid in their quest for the "number one position in the SUV segment in FY24."
