Maruti Suzuki Alto Clocks 45 Lakh Sales Milestone, Becomes India's Highest Selling Car Ever
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) stated today that it has successfully sold 45 lakh units of the entry-level Alto hatchback in the domestic market, marking a significant achievement. The company anticipates selling 50 lakh units of the Alto K10 by 2025 and the remaining 10 lakh units by 2028.

The most popular car in Indian automotive history has been a mainstay for many years, and it has changed throughout time to accommodate changing consumer demands. The Alto K10 nameplate was brought back to life last year, and it is currently one of India's most feature-rich affordable hatchbacks. It offers a wide selection of options to customers with features including dual front airbags, front power windows, electronic power steering, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution, AMT transmission options, and bi-fuel technology. The company anticipates selling 50 lakh units of the K10 by 2025 and the remaining 10 lakh units by 2028. For the uninitiated, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 comes with a price tag of Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki Alto Through the Years
After making its debut in 2000, the first-generation Alto was an immediate hit, and by 2004, it was the top-selling vehicle in the country. Presently, the Next-Gen K-Series 1.0L Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine of the All-New Alto K10, which is more powerful, continues to make it a popular option. In terms of sales, Maruti Suzuki achieved its first 10-lakh milestone in 2008, followed by 20-lakh in 2012, 30-lakh in 2016, and 40-lakh in 2020. With each new version, the Alto's features—which included dual airbags, automatic gear shift (AGS) capability, front power windows, electronic power steering, anti-lock brake system (ABS), and more—truly transformed the entry hatchback market.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: Engine and Transmission
The hatchback has two engine options under the hood. The Alto K10's 1.0-litre K-series Dual VVT petrol engine produces 89Nm of peak torque at 3,500rpm and 66bhp of power output at 5,500rpm. The unit delivers 56bhp at 5,300rpm and 82.1Nm at 3,400rpm when running on CNG. There's a 5-speed manual gearbox available.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: Design and Colour Options
The Alto K10 features a large honeycomb-patterned grille, a higher bonnet, halogen headlights with integrated turn signals, a squarish cluster of taillights, and an altered bumper. The 13-inch steel wheels of the hatchback have hubcaps on them. Moreover, there are multiple exterior colour options for the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: Solid White, Silky Silver, Granite Grey, Speedy Blue, Sizzling Red, Earth Gold, and Pearl Midnight Black.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: Price Range and Rivals
The base pricing of the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is currently Rs 4 lakh, while the VXi S-CNG variant costs Rs 5.96 lakh. All prices, ex-showroom. The hatchback competes with models such as the Renault Kwid, the Tata Tiago, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, and others in this price range.
