Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M&M) hit an important milestone with the construction of its 1,000,000th Scorpio-N SUV. The model, which arrived in the Indian market in June 2022, has reached this milestone in less than two years. Based on the popularity of the Scorpio brand, the new-gen Scorpio-N has also gained a lot of traction with customers and has seen a significant increase in bookings since its release. Depending on the model you choose, it is now one of the manufacturer's best-selling cars in the country and has a current waiting period of two to six months. The homegrown carmaker presently offers the vehicle in five different variants: Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8, and Z8L, along with petrol and diesel powertrain options. Prices range from Rs 13.60 lakh to Rs 24.54 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom.
Within the first half hour after opening the order books for the SUV, Mahindra had received over one lakh reservations. Lengthy waiting periods have persisted ever since, even as the automaker tries to boost its production capacity. Moreover, the firm recently modified the feature set of the mid-spec Scorpio-N model, which also became more expensive following the 2023 price increase. All orders for the SUV placed after 2024 will be subject to these adjustments.
Mahindra Scorpio-N: Design
The Scorpio-N has a completely new style while keeping its recognisable boxy silhouette, positioning it as a more upscale model of the SUV. The car has a six-slat grille, LED twin-pod projector headlights, and LED fog lights positioned between C-shaped LED daytime running lamps in the front. It further sports a side-hinged tailgate and vertically stacked tail lamp clusters at the back. Speaking of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,662mm in length, 1,917mm in width, 1,857mm in height, and a 2,750mm wheelbase. When fitted with the smaller 17-inch wheels, the height decreases to 1,849mm.
Mahindra Scorpio-N: Engine and Transmission Options
Mahindra offers two powertrain options for the Scorpio-N: the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and the 2.2-litre diesel engine. The entry-level diesel engine delivers 300Nm and 130bhp. It can, however, produce up to 173bhp and 300-400Nm in higher-spec configurations. Meanwhile, the 2-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 197bhp and 370/380Nm of torque. The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual, however, some of the more powerful diesel and turbo-petrol models also come with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Although the SUV comes standard with rear-wheel drive (RWD), the 173bhp diesel variant also has a four-wheel drive (4WD) option.
Mahindra Scorpio-N: Interior and Safety Features
There are many features included with the Mahindra Scorpio-N. The top variants can be had with wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12-speaker 3D Sony sound system, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, front and rear cameras, 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, auto start-stop, cruise control, electric sunroof, type-C USB ports for the first and second rows, keyless go, and connected car features. What3Word, which works with Alexa, is another option that lets you set your location with just three words. Six airbags, ESP, traction control, hill hold control, hill descent control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and driver drowsiness monitoring are among the safety equipment of the Scorpio-N.
