Mahindra Reva and Vodafone Business Services announced a strategic partnership that will give the users flexibility to access and operate a host of functions on the electric car e2O through an application on their smartphones or tablets. Available across platforms such as Android, iOS and Blackberry, this will be the first-of –its kind tie-up between a car manufacturer and a telecom service provider.

Tailor-made for the e2O, explained Chetan Maini, Chief of technology and strategy, Mahindra Reva, how the software could be used to remotely lock/unlock the car and even switch on the air conditioning in the car to pre-cool it. It can also help locate the nearest charging stations as well as have Mahindra engineers remotely monitor the vehicle for faults. The most interesting function though is that the car can be charged to go another 8-10kms in case it runs out of power.

While charging stations are already in place in cities like Mumbai and Bangalore, 15 more will be added to that list. Mahindra Reva has an ambitious plan to sell close to 6000 units of the e2O in the first year itself and we hope that Indian consumers take a liking to this green way of travelling.
