Mahindra Group has announced that it achieved water positive status during FY 2013-14, with water consumption of 6.1 cubic billion and savings of 8.4 cubic billion.

Majority of the water savings were achieved through the implementation of Micro Irrigation System project by Mahindra Group Company, EPC Industries Limited. The project was implemented in association with United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC), under its Programme of Activities on Energy Efficiency.

Energy efficiency was encouraged through the installation of systems such as drip and sprinkler irrigation, instead of the conventional conventional flood method of irrigation. This provided several benefits such as savings in water consumption between 30% and 50%, reduction in labour requirements by 50% and a decrease in use of fertilisers by 30-40%.

Despite limited use of water, yield increased between 12-76%.
