Veejay Nakra assumes charge of Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Business, following Hemant Sikka’s elevation to MD and CEO of Mahindra Logistics after Swaminathan’s exit.
Mahindra has reshuffled its leadership team in India, naming R Velusamy as the new President of its Automotive Division, while Veejay Nakra has been appointed to head the Farm Equipment Division. Velusamy, who previously led the Automotive Technology and Product Development unit, will now manage the SUV and LCV portfolios, with a focus on streamlining operations and boosting innovation. Nakra, who earlier served as Automotive Division President, will shift to the farm equipment arm – one of the company’s key revenue drivers – with an emphasis on international growth and expanding product offerings. These leadership changes reflect Mahindra’s broader vision of promoting internal talent to drive long-term growth and strategic execution.

In tandem with this shift, Mahindra is reorganising its automotive operations by unifying the SUV and sub-3.5-tonne Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segments under one cohesive leadership structure. R Velusamy, who has been part of the company since 1996, will lead this integrated vertical. His contributions have been instrumental in launching key internal combustion models and advancing the homegrown carmaker’s electric mobility efforts. He will continue to report directly to Executive Director Rajesh Jejurikar.
Nakra, a Mahindra veteran since 1995 known for steering the turnaround of its automotive business and expanding its international reach, will now helm the farm equipment division while maintaining his reporting relationship with Jejurikar.
Mahindra has recorded strong initial sales for its latest electric SUVs, the XEV 9e and BE 6, delivering over 3,000 units within a month of commencing shipments on March 20. The BE 6 is offered in five trims, with prices ranging from Rs 18.90 lakh to Rs 26.90 lakh (ex-showroom), while the XEV 9e is available in four variants, priced between Rs 21.90 lakh and Rs 30.50 lakh. Prices are ex-showroom.

Early demand indicates a stronger customer preference for the XEV 9e, which accounts for 59% of total bookings, compared to 41% for the BE 6. This has led to wait times of up to six months in certain regions. For both models, the fully equipped Pack Three trim has emerged as the top choice among buyers.
