We all know about the current financial difficulties Lotus is in and they haven’t yet announced any sports car production for the future. But fighting all odds, Lotus has launched a new motorcycle division and announced plans for a C-01 superbike. The C-01 will be Lotus’ first motorcycle.

Lotus Motorcycles is a joint project with Lotus racing partner,  Kodewa of Germany as well as car designer Daniel Simon and the Holzer Group. Kodewa is the race car constructor behind Lotus’ Le Mans and World Endurance programs and has been involved with DTM and Formula One racing in the past.

You might remember Daniel Simon, a former Volkswagen Group man, who was one of the key designers behind the Bugatti Veyron’s shape. He also gained immense popularity recently, for he was the designer of the 'Lightcycle' from Tron: Legacy.

There’s been no mention about the engine that will power the bike but Lotus confirms that the C-01 will put out 200bhp. We will keep you updated on the details and pictures as and when we get our hands on them. We expect it to come out in the next few weeks so stay tuned!
