Grand Vitara, Fronx and More Help Maruti Suzuki Register 83% YoY Growth in February; 61,234 Units Sold

Maruti Suzuki's entry-level models, the Alto and the S-Presso, continued to reel under stress, with sales plunging to 14,782 units compared to 21,875 units sold in February 2023.

Maruti Suzuki has reported total sales of 1,97,471 units in February 2024, registering a 15 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase over February 2023's sales volume of 1,72,321 units. The company's entry-level models, the Alto and the S-Presso, continued to reel under stress, with sales plunging to 14,782 units compared to 21,875 units sold in February 2023. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki's subcompact cars – Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and WagonR – were delivered to 71,627 buyers, registering a 10 per cent YoY decline last month. Last but not least, the midsize Ciaz sedan also remained on a downward path and clocked 481 units.

Speaking of sedans, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire was the best-selling sedan in January 2024 with 16,773 units, up from 14,012 units in December 2023, thereby accounting for a 48 per cent YoY increase. Under the hood, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire gets a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine with 89bhp and 113Nm of torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The same mill, mated to a 5-speed MT, produces 76bhp and 98.5Nm while operating on CNG. The sedan comes in four variants — ZXi, ZXi+, VXi, and LXi — with ex-showroom pricing ranging from Rs 6.57 lakh to Rs 9.39 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki February 2024: UV Segment

However, a notable 83 per cent YoY growth was recorded by the company's utility vehicles lineup, including the Brezza, Ertiga (the first MPV to cross the 10 lakh unit sales mark in India), Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny,and XL6. The UVs' February 2024 sales stood at 61,234 units as opposed to 33,550 units in February 2023. The only van offered by Maruti Suzuki – Eeco – clocked 12,147 units, denoting an increase of 7 per cent. 

Maruti Suzuki February 2024: Exports

While the company's domestic sales for February 2024 grew by a mere 9 per cent, exports witnessed a staggering 68 per cent growth to 28,927 units. In February 2023, the domestic sales and exports stood at 1,55,114 units and 17,207 units, respectively.  Of 1,68,544 domestic passenger vehicles registered last month, 5,147 units went to Toyota India, marking a 20 per cent YoY increase. 

Maruti Suzuki February 2024: CV Segment

In the commercial vehicle segment, the Maruti Suzuki Super Carry – the company's sole commercial vehicle in India – posted a 6 per cent degrowth in February 2024. First introduced in 2016, the Super Carry now comes powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, K-Series dual jet, dual VVT engine that powers the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Baleno, and more. When running on petrol, the car produces 80bhp at 6,000rpm and 104Nm of peak torque at 2,900rpm. In CNG mode, it makes 71bhp at 6,000rpm and 95Nm of torque at 2,800rpm.
