iQube, Jupiter and More Help TVS Motor Post 23% YoY Sales Growth in January 2024

From 12,169 units sold in January 2023 to 16,276 units last month, the sales of TVS electric vehicles saw a considerable surge of 34 per cent. The brand currently has two battery-powered products in its portfolio – iQube and X.

In January this year, TVS Motor Company reported monthly sales of around 3.40 lakh units, a 23 per cent increase over the 2.75 lakh units that the firm sold in the same month the previous year. This figure includes both domestic and export units from a variety of segments, such as two-wheelers, electric vehicles, and three-wheelers. Furthermore, from 12,169 units in January 2023 to 16,276 units last month, the sales of electric vehicles saw a considerable surge of 34 per cent. The brand currently has two battery-powered products in its portfolio – iQube and X. The latter is the company's new flagship electric scooter that created a lot of buzz with its launch last year. Another major debut from the Indian manufacturer came in the form of the Apache RTR 310. For the uninitiated, it is essentially a naked version of the Apache RR 310 with more features and a superior package all around.

Between January 2023 and January 2024, sales of two-wheelers grew by 25 per cent, from 2.65 lakh units to 3.30 lakh units. Meanwhile, comparing January of this year to the same month last year, domestic two-wheeler sales increased by 24 per cent to 2.68 lakh units. Moreover, a 29 per cent increase in motorcycle sales from 1.21 lakh units delivered in January 2023 to 1.56 lakh units in January 2024 was recorded. The automaker's sales of scooters showed a 24 per cent increase to 1.32 lakh units in January 2024 from 1.07 lakh units in January 2023.

TVS Three Wheeler Sales: January 2024

Now, moving on to the three-wheeler sales figures of the bikemaker. Notably, the numbers in this particular segment witnessed a dip of 17.51 per cent from 10,405 units in January 2023 to 9,576 units in January 2024.

Export Figures

From 57,024 units logged in January 2023 to 69,343 units in January 2024, the brand's total exports soared by 22 per cent. With sales rising from 48,239 units in January 2023 to 61,704 units in January 2024, two-wheeler exports saw a 28 per cent increase. According to TVS, the limitations on the supply of containers had an impact on the export figures.

TVS iQube, Jupiter: Mechanical Specs

The iQube and the Jupiter have been a sales driver for TVS Motor Company for a long time now. The former is available in two variants - iQube and iQube S. A top-spec iQube ST variant is slated to launch sometime this year. Mechanically, the most affordable version, the iQube, has a 3.04kWh battery pack and can go up to 100-kilometre per charge. The EV can produce 5.9bhp of peak power and 33Nm of torque at its maximum. It takes four hours and thirty minutes to fully charge the scooter's battery from zero to eighty percent. The iQube S is next in line and has comparable specifications, but it also has some added features such as adjustable hydraulic twin-tube suspension. 

A larger 4.56kWh battery pack that enables the model to travel up to 145-kilometre on a single charge will be included with the highest-spec iQube ST. Additionally, a 1500 W charger can charge the battery from 0 to 80 per cent in two hours and thirty minutes. The battery takes 4 hours and 6 minutes to charge from 0 per cent to 80 per cent when using a 600 W charger.

Speaking of the TVS Jupiter, a 124.8cc single-cylinder air-cooled two-valve engine powers the model and is coupled with TVS's ETFi (fuel injection) and intelliGO (auto start/stop) technology. This unit churns out 8bhp of maximum power at 6,500rpm and 10.5Nm of peak torque at 4,500rpm when mated to a CVT transmission. In the domestic market, the Jupiter 125 locks horns with the likes of the Suzuki Access 125, the Yamaha Fascino 125, and the Honda Activa.
