IMOTY 2024 Contenders Announced: Himalayan, 390 Duke, Scrambler 400X and More Make the Cut

While there is still time to announce the IMOTY 2024 winner, let's look at the selected contenders who will battle for the prestigious title.

The long-awaited list of contestants to compete for the title of the Indian Motorcycle Of The Year 2024 (IMOTY) has been announced. A host of recently launched motorcycles in numerous categories, including adventure, roadster, and cruiser, are among the contenders for this year's IMOTY category. A total of seven bikes have been chosen by the top automotive journalists in the domain, including our very own Digital Editor Manav Sinha, and Road Test Editor Shivank Bhatt. The winner category will be announced later this month.

It's interesting to see that five of the seven bikes that are shortlisted belong to the segment of 400cc and 500cc. In 2023, the Royal Enfield Hunter won the honourable Indian Motorcycle of the Year award. While there is still time for the announcement of this year's champion, the list of the chosen ones has been announced. So, let's take a look at the contenders' lineup for 2024.

Hero Karizma XMR

The new Karizma's mechanical parts include a 210cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces roughly 25.15bhp of maximum power at 9,250rpm and the highest torque in its class of 20.4Nm at 7,250rpm. There is a 6-speed gearbox option with a slip and assist clutch. In India, the bike retails for Rs 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom).

KTM 390 Duke

The KTM 390 Duke is powered by a brand-new, 399cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. With a six-speed transmission, it generates 39Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm and 46bhp of maximum power at 8,000rpm. In our market, the bike comes with a price tag of Rs 3.11 lakh (ex-showroom). 

KTM 390 Duke Handling

TVS Apache RTR 310

A 312.2cc reverse-inclined liquid-cooled motor that belts out 35bhp at 9,700rpm and 28.7Nm at 6,650rpm powers the Apache RTR 310 from TVS. This motor comes connected to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slip clutch. Prices for the TVS Apache RTR 310 begin at Rs 2.43 lakh and go up to Rs 2.64 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650

The Super Meteor 650 from Royal Enfield's stable is propelled by a 648cc parallel-twin air-cooled engine, paired with a six-speed gearbox. This setup delivers a peak power output of 47bhp and a maximum torque of 52Nm. In India, the price of this Royal Enfield bike ranges from Rs 3.61 lakh to Rs 3.91 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom.

Harley-Davidson X440

The brand-new Harley-Davidson X440 runs on a 440cc, air/oil-cooled motor that produces 27bhp and 38Nm. It has a six-speed gearbox and is available in three variants: Denim, Vivid, and S. The bike has a starting price of Rs 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.

Triumph Scrambler 400X

The Triumph Scrambler 400X comes equipped with a 398.15cc BS6 motor that generates 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm of performance figures. With a price tag of Rs 2.62 lakh (ex-showroom), it is the company's most affordable Scrambler in the range.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450

The 451cc liquid-cooled Sherpa 450 engine powers the newly released Royal Enfield Himalayan. It is the first liquid-cooled mill from the automaker, with 40Nm and 39.5bhp of performance figures.

The new Himalayan is priced at Rs 2.69 lakh (Introductory, ex-showroom) and goes up against the Triumph Scrambler 400 X, Yezdi Adventure, and BMW G 310 GS.
