In July this year, Hyundai launched the Exter B-SUV in the Indian market, with prices beginning at Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). The model comes in nine different colour schemes and seven distinct variants, namely, EX, EX(O), S, S(O), SX, SX(O), and SX(O) Connect. In terms of market rivals, the Exter faces stiff competition from the Tata Punch in the sub-4-metre entry-SUV segment. Also competing against the Exter are the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, the Nissan Magnite, the Renault Kiger, the Citroen C3, and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Looking at the current Hyundai Exter waiting period, it appears that the SUV is quite in demand. In the city of Bhopal, the model presently commands a waiting period of up to 50 weeks for the entry-level EX and EX(O) models. On the other hand, the Hyundai Exter waiting period for the high-spec SX(O) AMT and SX(O) Connect AMT trims stands at 22 weeks.

Hyundai Exter SUV: Engine and Transmission
The Exter SUV has a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol, 4-cylinder normally aspirated engine under the hood that produces 113.8Nm of maximum torque at 4,000rpm and 82bhp of maximum power at 6,000rpm. There are two transmission choices available: a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic. A 1.2-litre Bi-Fuel Kappa petrol with a CNG unit produces 95.2Nm and 68bhp, however. A manual gearbox handles the transmission for the CNG variant. The CNG-spec is available across the mid-spec variants, the S and SX, while all other petrol units, with the exception of the entry-level variant, are provided with both MT and AMT gearboxes. The Exter SUV offers a 19.4km/l fuel efficiency rating for the manual variant and a 19.2km/l fuel efficiency rating for the automatic variant, according to ARAI certification. The car claims to have a 27.1km/kg fuel efficiency using a CNG engine that was factory-installed.
