Japanese carmaker Honda has issued a voluntary recall for nearly 26 lakh vehicles from the 2017-2020 model years, for concerns regarding the fuel pump. The brand says that this issue has arisen due to 'improper moulding' of the fuel pump impeller, which can lead to low-density impellers that could deform and interfere with the fuel pump body. This leads to chances of the fuel pump becoming inoperative and, under the worst circumstances, the engine stalling could occur – increasing the risk of a crash or injury. However, there have been no reports of crashes or injuries related to this problem, according to Honda.
The models affected by this recall include 2.54 million (25.40 lakh) Acura and Honda vehicles in the United States. Read on to take a detailed look at the recalled vehicles listed below:

Honda Recall: Remedial Measures
The recall exercise involves the preventive replacement of the fuel pump. According to a company statement, considering the size of the recall, countermeasure replacement parts are not available in sufficient quantities to fix all recalled vehicles right away. Therefore, Honda intends to notify its customers in a phased manner via mail, starting in early February 2024. The company will carry out subsequent mailings as and when parts become available for subject vehicles.
Alternatively, owners can run a check on the Acura and Honda websites by submitting their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), or by calling (888) 234-2138. They can also visit the NHTSA's website to see if their vehicles fall under the recall. The replacement of the potentially faulty fuel pump will be free of charge at Honda dealerships.
This is the largest individual recall this year, even surpassing Tesla's recall campaign affecting more than 20 lakh vehicles as a result of defects with the brand's Autopilot Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) placed in the Model S, Model X, Model 3, and the Model Y.
The Honda recall comes after the Japanese automaker recalled 6.28 lakh and 1.36 lakh American vehicles in 2021 and 2020, respectively, for the said reason.
