Honda Cars India will be replacing faulty Takata-supplied front airbag inflators on all the affected models sold in the country.
Honda Cars India has announced a major recall for over 1.90 lakh vehicles in India. The Japanese auto maker will be calling back a total of 190,578 units of the Accord, CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz to replace the Takata-supplied front airbag inflators. Honda clarifies that this is a voluntary recall, which is part of the company’s ongoing global recall campaign.
As is with all the recalls, the replacement of the faulty component will be carried out in a phased manner at authorized Honda dealerships across the country. According to Honda, the campaign for the affected models of the CR-V and Civic will begin immediately while for other models it will start from September 2016.
Honda City, being the company’s best-seller, is undoubtedly hit the hardest by the current recall. A total of 137,270 units of the mid-size sedan built between 2008 and 2011 will be recalled. Next in the queue is the Accord sedan (2003-2011), of which 22,483 units are affected. 15,706 units of the previous-gen Jazz (2009-2011) will also have to report back to Honda workshops. Over 13,000 units of the Civic sedan are affected (2007 – 2 units; 2009-2011 – 13,603 units). 1,514 units of the CR-V sold between 2009 and 2009 complete the list of recalled vehicles.
Customers can directly go and check whether their cars are affected by the recall by putting in their vehicles’ 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special microsite on Honda Cars India’s official webpage. In any case, owners of the affected models will be contacted by Honda directly.
