With the reduced Goods & Services Tax (GST) rate on EVs coming in effect from 1st August, a host of popular electric vehicles in India have undergone significant price cuts. Here's a quick look...
The Indian government has for sure gone into an all-out attack mode to increase the uptake of EVs in the country. While the GST reduction on electric vehicles comes as a welcome change for end-consumers, it's also going to act as an incentive for more manufacturers to enter the electric mobility space. Coming to the topic at hand, brands like Tata, Mahindra & Ather Energy have already announced the benefits on their electric offerings by reducing their prices. Here's a look at the revised prices...
Tata Tigor EV
Tata Motors has announced a price cut of ₹ 80,000 on the Tigor EV. Previously, the Tigor EV was priced between ₹ 12.35-12.71 lakh. With the tax reduction, the new prices are between ₹ 11.58-11.92 lakh (All prices are Ex-showroom, Mumbai and do not include the TCS or the FAME subsidy). The price cut will be applicable across the Tigor EV range, that is, on the base XE, XM and top-spec XT variant.
However, the Tigor EV is only available for public transport, government officials and other commercial use. It is powered by a 16.2kWh battery pack, which helps the motor churn out 40.2bhp & 105Nm of torque.
Mahindra eVerito
The eVerito has also received a price cut of ₹ 80,000, identical to that of the Tigor EV. However, select variants of the eVerito are on sale for private car users as well. Post the GST rate cut, private car users will now have to shell out ₹ 13.70-14.20 lakh for the eVerito (All prices are on-road, Delhi; FAME-II subsidy not applicable on EVs with private registration). Meanwhile, the base D2 variant (for commercial/fleet aggregators) is now priced at ₹ 10.71 lakh (on-road, Delhi).
The eVerito produces a marginally higher 40.9bhp than the Tigor EV, but offer the same levels of torque at 91Nm.
