Google Maps has extended traffic information to 12 new Indian cities, taking the total count to 34. The new cities added are Kolkata, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Indore, Ludhiana, Visakhapatnam, Nagpur, Kochi, Madurai and Bhopal.
The latest update to Google’s standalone navigation app isn’t limited to towns and cities. The California-based internet giant will also show traffic conditions for all national highways and expressways in real-time.
“We’re constantly working on making Google Maps a more comprehensive, daily tool for Indians, and we hope that this new real-time traffic information for 12 cities and all national highways will help drivers across the country find the best routes to their destinations with the fewest delays,” said Suren Ruhela, Director, Program Management, Google.
The update is latest effort by Google to make Maps more useful for mobile internet users in India. Earlier this year, the company launched voice-guided navigation in Hindi and Indian-accented English.
