Mercedes-Benz India has recorded its highest-ever annual sales in CY2023. Between January and December last year, the luxury carmaker clocked sales of 17,408 cars and SUVs, denoting a 10 per cent YoY (year-on-year) growth over the same period of CY2022, when 15,822 units were sold. Of the sales volume, nearly 10,000 SUVs (or 55 per cent) were dispatched to its customers, while the sedan line-up, including the A-Class, C-Class, E-Class and S-Class, constituted 45 per cent of sales. In the SUV segment, the second-generation GLC, the facelifted GLE, the GLA, and the GLS were instrumental in the achievement of the company's sales growth.
Speaking of SUVs, the company recently launched the facelifted GLS in India, priced at Rs 1.32 crore for the GLS 450 (petrol) and Rs 1.37 crore for the GLS 450d (diesel). Both prices are ex-showroom. The former is powered by a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that makes 360bhp and 500Nm of torque, while the latter uses a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, diesel unit, delivering 325bhp and 700Nm of torque.

Both variants are mated to a mild-hybrid system, adding 20bhp and 200Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic gearbox. On offer are three driving modes: Eco, Comfort, and Off-road. At the launch event, the carmaker announced an additional investment of Rs 200 crore in India this year on new product startups, manufacturing operations and digitisation. This new investment brings the company's total investment in the country to Rs 3,000 crore.
Mercedes-Benz India: How it Fares in the EV Segment?
The year 2024 will witness more than 12 launches by Mercedes-Benz in the country, including three electric vehicles. Speaking of which, the brand's electric vehicles (EQS, EQB, and EQE) contributed about 4 per cent (less than 700 units) to its overall sales, representing a three-fold increase over CY2022. According to the carmaker, the calendar year 2023 was the 'best year ever' in terms of overall sales, with Mercedes-Benz India also registering its best-ever H2 and best-ever Q4.

The company reported favourable performance in all three categories of vehicles – 'Entry', 'Core', and 'Top-End', with the LWB E-Class being the single highest-selling model in 2023.
