These two companies – Delphi Automotive and Ottomatika Inc. – will try to create a platform together that will make human-like decisions when driving in the city or on the highway.
In order to make Indian roads safer, two giants in the field of advanced driver assistance system have decided to work together to make a system that is independent of driver’s capabilities. Delphi Automotive, a leader in advanced driver assistance systems, and Ottomatika Inc., a company started by Carnegie Mellon University, to provide advanced automated driving software, have joined hands to develop a technology that will help accelerate automated driving. This joint venture will let the car to take human-like judgements and manoeuvre itself. The platform or the technology will have enough scope for expansion if needed. It will also allow the car to communicate with other cars in an emergency.
Commenting on the development, Jeff Owens, Delphi’s chief technology officer said, “Dealing with highly complex real-world decisions is a limitation for much of the current technology in the market. This partnership with Ottomatika will represent a significant step forward in making automated driving a reality. Your car just got a lot smarter.”
Taking cues from both the companies, the vehicle platform will be able to take complex decisions, like stopping and proceeding at a four-way stop, timing a highway merge or calculating the safest manoeuvre around a bicyclist on a city street.
Adding further, Raj Rajkumar, Co-founder and CEO, Ottomatika, Inc. said, “Ottomatika leverages ground-breaking expertise and long-term experience in vehicle automation. Delphi and Ottomatika working together have the potential to solve the automated driving challenge, which makes roads safer for everyone.”
