Indian market witnessed a growth of 15.26% YoY in December car sales figures.
SIAM, in its latest communication said that the domestic car sales increased by 15.26% in December 2014 over December sales in 2013. Where December 2013 saw a sales figure of 1,32,524 units, December 2014 witnessed a sales figure of 1,52,743. Number of motorcycles sold in December 2014 declined by 3.52% to 7,79,908 units from 8,08,389 units sold in December 2013.
Thanks to the numbers contributed by Maruti-Suzuki, Hyundai and Honda specifically, the sales figures looked promising in an otherwise slow market. A lot can be blamed on the price rise that was expected to happen because of the centre’s decision to remove the excise duty cut.
Scooters compensated somewhat for the fall in motorcycles sales making it a happy affair for the two-wheeler segment. The scooter industry saw a growth of 24.01% resulting in sales of 3,74,159 units. The two-wheeler industry rose by 4.52% overall to 12,12,996 units.
The commercial vehicles segment saw a growth of 58.33% as the number of vehicles sold in December 2014 rose to 21,802 units as compared to 13,770 units sold in the corresponding month in 2013.
