Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has revealed its sales figures for last month. The company announced that it recorded a 7 per cent year-on-year boost in total sales in May at 63,551 units. This shows a 3,950-unit increase in overall passenger car sales or a 6.62 per cent annual gain in monthly sales of passenger cars. For comparison, Hyundai sold a total of 59,601 passenger vehicles in May last year. Furthermore, it delivered 49,151 passenger cars in our home market in May 2024. This represents a 550-unit increase in domestic passenger vehicle sales, resulting in a 1.13 per cent year-on-year surge in monthly passenger car sales in India. Read on to learn more.

Hyundai India Export Figures: May 2024
Hyundai exported 14,400 passenger vehicles in May 2024. This corresponds to a 3,400 unit or a 30.90 per cent year-over-year increase in monthly exports of passenger vehicles. Meanwhile, the South Korean automaker exported 11,000 passenger cars in May last year. In addition to providing data on passenger car sales for May 2024, the company revealed that SUVs made up roughly 67 per cent of all automobile sales during the month in question.

Commenting on the sales figures, Tarun Garg, COO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said, 'We have maintained a healthy total sales volume in May 2024, despite a week-long routine bi-annual maintenance shutdown at our Sriperumbudur factory. SUVs continue to be a growth driver for HMIL, accounting for more than 67 per cent of domestic sales last month. Our rural penetration stood at a healthy 20.1 per cent in May.'

Creta EV Spotted Testing in India
In other news, a test mule of the Creta EV with an ADAS sensor mounted on the front bumper was spotting testing. The SUV includes various EV-specific elements such as a closed-off grille, a charging port positioned on the front fender, and aero alloy wheels. Apart from that, it shares many features with its ICE counterpart, like roof rails, split LED headlamps, interconnected LED taillamps, and a rear spoiler with a built-in stop lamp. Although there are currently no interior photos available, we expect the SUV to offer the same features as the petrol version. The electric Creta is slated to debut later this year and reach the market by 2025. It is expected to carry a starting price of Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
