On the back of surging demand for its sports utility vehicles (SUVs), Hyundai Motor India has recorded domestic market sales of 50,201 units in April 2024, an increase of 1 per cent over April 2023's 49,701 vehicles. With 50,201 units sold, April 2024 is the fourth consecutive month that saw domestic sales surpass the 50,000-unit mark. In comparison, the domestic sales figures for January 2024, February 2024, and March 2024 stood at 57,115 units, 50,201 units (the same as last month), and 53,001 units, respectively.
The demand for Hyundai's passenger vehicles continues to be driven by its SUVs (Creta, Venue, Exter, and 4 others), which contributed to 67 per cent of Hyundai's total domestic sales. This means that 33,634 SUVs went to home buyers last month, constituting a 23 per cent year-on-year increase over 27,304 units delivered in April 2023. Speaking of SUVs, Hyundai India currently retails the Creta, Venue, Alcazar, Exter, and Tucson, as well as Ioniq 5 and Kona electric vehicles (EVs). Besides, two hatchbacks (i20, Grand i10 Nios) and two sedans (Aura, Verna) are on sale.

Hyundai's Future EV Plans
In other news, Hyundai plans to introduce five locally produced EV models for the Indian market by 2030. These new vehicles will join the company's existing Kona EV and IONIQ 5 already on sale in the country. The first two models that will likely arrive are the Creta EV and the Venue EV. The former, which is expected to go into production by the end of this year, will have a design similar to the Creta facelift. Expect the model to offer a range of 400–450km on a single charge. Meanwhile, the latter will borrow design cues from the next-generation Venue, which should make its way to our market in 2025.
