Bharat Mobility Expo 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated this year’s edition of India’s largest automotive event. The event underscores the country’s increasing influence in the global automotive market, with a strong emphasis on electric vehicles (EVs), sustainable mobility, and advanced technologies. Featuring over 1,500 exhibitors and attracting more than 5 lakh visitors, the expo provides a platform for both established and new brands to showcase their latest innovations. It also includes simultaneous exhibitions like the Auto Expo Motor Show, the Battery Show, and Mobility Tech, marking a significant moment in India’s automotive progress.

PM Modi's Address: Key Highlights

PM Modi highlighted that in the coming days, many people will visit the Bharat Mobility Expo to witness exciting new launches, reflecting the growing optimism surrounding the future of mobility in India. As Prime Minister Modi aptly stated, "India's automotive industry is fantastic and future-ready." He also paid tribute to influential figures like Osamu Suzuki and Ratan Tata, who he said, played pivotal roles in shaping the growth of India’s automotive sector and fulfilling the aspirations of the middle class.

He further stated that India's auto industry grew by 12% last year, and exports continue to rise under the “Make in India” and “Made for the World” initiatives. With more than 2.5 crore cars sold annually, demand in India is soaring, positioning the country as a key player in the global mobility landscape. India is now the fifth-largest economy globally and ranks third in the passenger vehicle market. PM Modi emphasised that several factors contribute to the country's growing automotive sector, including the largest youth population, an expanding middle class, increasing urbanisation, advanced infrastructure, and affordable vehicles through the “Make in India” initiative. He also pointed out that the needs and aspirations of India's youth and neo-middle class are central to the success of the auto sector, which is expected to see significant demand in the coming years. The country is actively pursuing advancements in autonomous driving and connected vehicles.

According to PM, the government’s support for the auto sector is evident through initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which has helped boost the “Make in India” campaign, creating more jobs and enhancing sales. Over the past four years, India’s auto sector has received more than USD 36 billion in the form of FDI, with projections indicating continued growth in the coming years. The goal is to develop a robust automotive manufacturing ecosystem in India, with a mobility system that supports both the economy and the environment.

Speaking of the remarkable growth experienced by the electric mobility sector, he highlighted that in the past decade, electric vehicle (EV) sales have surged by 640%. Ten years ago, only 2,600 EVs were sold annually, but last year, sales reached approximately 17 lakh vehicles. This impressive growth highlights India’s progress and ambition in the EV space.
