Xiaomi SU7, Chinese Smartphone Maker's First-Ever EV, Revealed with up to 664bhp

Available in SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max versions, the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan will enter production in December this year.

The Xiaomi SU7, the Chinese Smartphone maker's first-ever all-electric sedan, has been revealed ahead of its launch next year in China. The 5-door Xiaomi SU7 saloon will enter production in December 2023, and deliveries will commence in February 2024. The details of the upcoming SU7 electric vehicle were uncovered from a Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filling. 

Xiaomi SU7: Dimensions, Design

Previously codenamed MS11, the Xiaomi SU7 is 4,997mm long, 1,963mm wide, and 1,455mm tall and features a wheelbase of 3,000mm. Offered in 3 variants – SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max, the electric sedan's kerb weight sits between 1,980-2,205kg, depending on which variant you go for.

The SU7's design is similar to that of the Tesla Model 3, Xiaomi's market rival. The smartphone maker's sedan gets teardrop-shaped LED headlamps, an air dam on the front bumper, and a tapering bonnet. Other visual elements include a sloping roofline, connected LED taillights, a camera on the B pillar, as well as a choice of 19- and 20-inch wheels. If you choose higher-spec variants, you will get an active rear wing and Lidar technology installed behind the front windshield.

While the specifics regarding its interior are not out, expect the SU7 to feature a 3-spoke steering wheel, dual displays for infotainment and instrumentation, autonomous driving technology, etc. Besides, the SU7 will run on in-house HyperOS that powers both smartphones and cars. 

Xiaomi SU7: Powertrain

Underneath the skin, the Xiaomi SU7 gets two powertrain setups: a rear-wheel-drive system with 295bhp and an all-wheel-drive setup with 664bhp. There will be two battery packs on offer – a BYD-sourced LFP (lithium-ion phosphate) Blade battery on base variants and an expensive NMC (ternary) type battery pack on top-spec variants. The company has yet to reveal the battery specifications. 

The lower-spec trims with RWD claim a top speed of 210km/h, while the range-topping model with AWD has a claimed top speed of 265km/h.

Positioned as a market rival to the Tesla Model 3, the Mercedes-Benz EQE, and others, the Xiaomi SU7 will be contract-manufactured by Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd. (BAIC).
