VW has been a strong contender to become the world’s largest automotive manufacturer in the world. If you take a look at their recent strategies, you can make out that they are being very aggressive indeed. In 2011 the German manufacturer unveiled a neat little city commuter called the Up! at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and it signaled the entry of VW into the entry-level small budget car segment. Since then VW has been aggressively campaigning in India as well as in China, and now there is some more interesting news coming from the VW camp.
Even though the Up! has not been officially launched in the Asian market, it has now been officially confirmed that VW will be launching another small budget car aimed specifically at Asian markets. There were rumors that the company was planning to set up a separate budget brand for Europe, but there has been no word yet on that front. However, the German car giants have announced a new budget car with a 2015 launch in China. VW head Martin Winterkorn in a recent interview with a German website indicated that the new budget car would cost only US $8000 (approx 4 lakh) and he also said that the car would not look cheap and will meet more than just mobility requirements. The car could possibly be sold in other emerging markets as well.
