Volvo has announced plans to unveil its 'substantially refreshed' XC90 on September 4. This suggests that the new iteration of the Volvo XC90 will get a freshly designed exterior – in line with the EX90 – and a host of tech upgrades. While the company has yet to reveal its powertrain details, there is a possibility that the updated XC90 might come with the same powertrains as the Lynk & Co. 09. Based on Volvo’s SPA platform, the 09 is the company's biggest car.
The Lynk & Co. 09 mid-size SUV gets 2.0-litre inline-4 engines in hybrid configurations. The mild-hybrid setup is rated at 251bhp and 350Nm, while the plug-in hybrid version makes 547bhp and 845Nm when a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine is combined with three electric motors. The electric-only range stands at 161 kilometres. Both setups offer an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Volvo XC90 Facelift: Exterior
The latest iteration of the Volvo XC90 is expected to receive a huge design overhaul, drawing inspiration from its EV sibling, the EX90. The official teaser shows a sculpted hood and new headlamps featuring Thor’s-hammer LED daytime running lamps. Apart from that, nothing else is visible.
Volvo XC90 Facelift: Interior, Features
The interior of the new XC90 is likely to adopt a minimalist design, with most controls relegated to a 14.5-inch vertically oriented touchscreen. In the EX90, the touchscreen operates on Volvo’s Google-based system. Besides, the new XC90 could offer a laser-based surround-view sensing system called LiDAR (standard), along with eight cameras and radar.
Volvo will unveil the updated XC90 at the '90/90' event, where it also will launch the all-new fully electric EX90. Plus the event could witness the company bring in 'a surprise or two', alluding to another unveiling.
