Volvo recently announced that it has renamed its two popular electric models, the XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge, for the global market. The former (XC40 Recharge) will now be known as the EX40, while the latter (C40 Recharge) will be called the EC40. With this, the two renamed EVs are now in tune with the brand’s larger range of completely electric vehicles, like the EX30, the EX90, and the EM90. However, it is worth noting that the manufacturer has omitted the 'Recharge' suffix not only from its international range of electric models but also from plug-in hybrids, which will now be known by the T6 or T8 suffix, indicating differing levels of power output. The Swedish automaker has revealed that the XC40 will retain its nameplate for its ICE variants. Customers will find it easier to identify between the company’s ICE, EV, and plug-in hybrid vehicles because of the new nomenclature. For India, the automaker has not disclosed anything, but industry reports indicate that Volvo EVs will be renamed and rebadged here soon.
Volvo EX40, EC40: More Highlights
For the new model year, there is an update available in some locations for the EX40 and EC40 Twin Motor models. Volvo has confirmed a new performance software pack with special pedal mapping for faster acceleration, increasing the total power output by 25kW (33.5 bhp). According to the automaker, the Performance drive model will unleash an overall 436bhp of power for the electric SUVs. Customers can use the Volvo Cars App, which offers the performance software upgrade as an optional extra while placing an order for a new Volvo. However, current owners of the C40 and XC40 Recharge models can purchase and download the update using a smartphone.
The carmaker did not stop here; it also announced that the Volvo EX40, EC40, and XC40 models of 2024 will come equipped with smart internal storage and Google built-in. The EX40 has a battery range of 576 kilometres (WLTP Cycle) on a single charge, however, the EC40 offers a slightly increased range of 583 kilometres (WLTP Cycle) due to its aerodynamic body form.
The company has also made some noteworthy announcements, like as major enhancements to its hybrid lineup, with the B5 mild-hybrid petrol versions of the XC60 and XC90 boasting a more effective engine combustion engine. The XC60 and XC90 are expected to have up to 4% and 2%, respectively, more fuel efficiency and a reduction in CO2 emissions, according to the firm.
Last but not least, in response to the popularity of the XC60 Black Edition that was introduced the previous year, the manufacturer has now released a limited-edition Black Edition of the EX40, EC40, and XC40 cars. The 20-inch five-spoke wheels coated with high gloss black, Onyx Black paint, high gloss black branding, and a choice of textile or microtech charcoal interiors are all included with the Black Edition versions.
