Volvo has launched the V40 Cross Country luxury hatchback in India. Getting into the same segment as its German rival Mercedes-Benz, Volvo is aiming at a more niche clientele and has introduced this luxury hatchback with no variants but a single top-of-the-line V40 at Rs 28.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Volvo V40 comes equipped with the company's 2.0-litre, five cylinder D3 diesel engine. The D3 engine develops 150bhp and 350Nm torque. Volvo is giving the customers an option of a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. Volvo says that the V40 with the D3 engine is capable of returning a mileage of 16.81 km/l.
As said earlier, Volvo hasn’t compromised on the bells and whistles in this car and the V40 Cross Country packs in features like Interior air quality system (IAQS), fully adjustable electric front seats, heated front and rear seats, optional leather upholstery, electronic climate control, fixed panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, adaptive head lamps, rain sensors, daylight sensing daytime running LEDs, park assist, blind spot information system, cross traffic alert, Bluetooth hands free system, keyless entry with start/stop button, digital TV receiver and many more.
Safety is something Volvo is synonymous with and the V40 Cross Country comes equipped with features like ABS, whiplash protection, hill decent control, traction control, stability control, dual stage airbags with passenger airbag deactivation switch, pedestrian airbag and anti-submarining protection.
Sudeep Narayan, Marketing and PR Director, Volvo Auto India, said, “Volvo is not going for a price sensitive product but fully loaded bells and whistles versions of the V40 Cross Country. We are continuing to import the cars into India but at some stage we will think about assembling them here.”
