Volvo Car India will launch a brand new product, the S90 sedan in India in October 2016.
[UPDATE on 06/07/16]: Volvo has commenced bookings of the S90 in India.
To replace the ageing and now out of production S80 sedan, The all new Volvo S90 will be launched in India in October. The S90 will compete against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6, Jaguar XF and the BMW 5-series.
For the Indian market, the S90 is expected to get the 2.0-litre diesel engine, in 190hp D4 and 235hp D5 spec. However, a petrol engine or even a plug-in hybrid variant could also be added to the Indian line-up later on in its life cycle.
Despite being brought in as Completely built up units, Volvo has always been able to price their cars competitively. We expect the S90 to have a starting price around the ballpark of Rs. 50-60 lakh ex-showroom and come fully loaded with all the newly developed technology and featured from Volvo, similar to the current XC90 SUV. Volvo will also debut their radar based technology in India with the S90 like radar guided cruise control, automatic braking, etc.
The design of the Volvo S90 is completely based on Volvo’s new design language. At the front you get a brand new designed grille which is reminiscent to the coveted Volvo P1800, but with a more modern twist. In addition, the car also has brand new designed head lamps with the ‘Thor Hammer’ LED DRLs.
India Spec Volvo S90 will get all back interiors, just like the XC90. In the centre console, is a large touchscreen in a portrait orientation and a similar instrument cluster and steering wheel found in the new SUV that Volvo launched last year.
