Only on sale in the top-spec Inscription model, the Volvo S90 has been priced at Rs 53.5 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai, without octroi).
After a long wait, Volvo has finally brought in the S90 sedan to India. We have already driven it in India last month and came back mightily impressed. The S90 replaces the old S80 in Volvo’s line-up of cars. Also Read: 2016 Volvo S90 India Review : First Drive
While there are few too many reasons to fall in love with the S90, the first one is easily the exterior design. The rectangular grille that is typical of all the new-generation Volvo cars, the Thor headlamps, the strong shoulder line and the sharply cut boot give it a purposeful appeal.
Step inside and the S90 is familiar territory for anyone who has experienced the new XC90. The dashboard looks identical with the dual-tone black and beige treatment. Splitting the two tones is a dash of matte finished wood that makes it look ultra-luxurious. The steering, centre console, gear lever all have been borrowed from the larger XC90.
Based on the same SPA platform as the XC90, the S90 comes only in the D4 trim. This variant comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel motor that produces 190bhp and 400Nm. All of this power is transferred to the wheels with the help of an 8-speed automatic transmission. Suspension duties are performed by a traditional setup at the front and air-suspension at the back.
The Volvo S90 comes with class-leading features including four-zone climate control, 19 speaker Bowers and Wilkins system, power adjustable front seats, sun roof, LED headlights and taillights, adaptive cruise control and more. In terms of safety, the S90 is cocooned with airbags, electronic stability program, emergency braking system and more.
The Volvo S90 will compete against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Audi A6, the BMW 5 Series and the Jaguar XF in the Indian market.
