Volvo revealed its new flagship, the XC90, which is visually striking, premium quality seven-seat SUV with world leading safety features, new powertrain technologies, a combination of power and fuel efficiency and a classy interior finish.
The 2015 XC90 is longer, taller and lower dimensions than the current model and will be the first all-new car to emerge under the new owners, Geely. Volvo was sold by Ford to Chinese automaker in 2010. It uses a new platform that Volvo calls Scalable Product Architecture, designed to accommodate a wide range of vehicle types.
Celebrating Volvo’s 87 year history, the new XC90 is the first of its cars to carry the company’s new more prominent iron mark, which has the iconic arrow elegantly aligned with the diagonal slash across the grille. Together with the T-shaped “Thor’s Hammer” DRL lights, the iron mark introduces an entirely new, distinctive and confident face for Volvo’s forthcoming generation of cars. To add to its brawny looks, it comes with a range of wheel sizes up to 22 inches.
The XC90 is an all-wheel-drive, powered by a 316-horsepower, 2-litre turbocharged and supercharged engine and will come in a hybrid option that boosts power to 400 horsepower.
The XC90 will have a feature that allows it to follow the car ahead of it, which Volvo says is a step toward self-driving cars.
The vehicle will have two new safety systems. One detects if the vehicle is running off the road and tightens occupants' seat belts. The other automatically brakes the crossover if the driver of the Volvo starts to turn in front of another car that is going quicker than expected. That's in addition to the car's other automatic braking features, covering cars, bicyclists and pedestrians, both day and night.
