Volvo EX60 Electric Crossover Officially Teased for the First Time Ahead of 2026 Debut
The Volvo EX60 electric crossover will likely feature a closed-off grille and Thor’s Hammer LED daytime running lights (DRLs).

Volvo has unveiled the first teaser for its upcoming EX60, an all-electric counterpart to the widely successful XC60. Although the vehicle was first confirmed in September 2023, this marks the first visual preview from the company. The teaser, subtly incorporated into Volvo’s ES90 electric sedan unveiling video, briefly reveals a camouflaged clay prototype, hinting at the brand’s signature vertical taillight design. Slated for a 2026 debut, the EX60 is expected to adopt a split-taillight configuration, with upper segments extending along the rear windshield, mirroring the EX30 and EX90. Additionally, the EV is likely to feature a closed-off grille as well as Thor’s Hammer LED daytime running lights (DRLs), aligning with the Swedish carmaker’s latest electric design philosophy.
Upcoming Volvo EX60: Key Details
Built on Volvo’s next-generation SPA3 platform, the EX60 will mark a technological shift from the SPA2 architecture that underpins the EX90 and ES90. Unlike earlier iterations that accommodated internal combustion and hybrid powertrains, SPA3 has been developed exclusively for electric vehicles, improving modularity and production efficiency while reducing manufacturing costs. A key innovation of this platform is its structural battery integration, designed to enhance performance, lower weight, and optimise cost-effectiveness.

Another breakthrough expected with SPA3 is mega casting, an advanced manufacturing technique that replaces multiple smaller components with single large-cast structures. This method streamlines assembly processes, improves structural rigidity, and reduces overall weight. The company previously confirmed plans to implement mega casting at its Torslanda facility in Sweden, which currently produces the XC60 and will serve as the production hub for future SPA3-based models.
Despite the arrival of the EX60, Volvo will continue to manufacture the XC60, which underwent a mid-cycle refresh last year. This update introduced subtle design refinements along with an upgraded infotainment system. Furthermore, Volvo has adjusted its electrification strategy, stating that gasoline and plug-in hybrid models will remain in production beyond 2030, shifting away from its previous plan to transition to an all-electric lineup.
With cutting-edge tech and premium features, the EX60 is expected to be positioned above its combustion-powered counterpart, with an estimated starting price of approximately USD 60,000 (about Rs 52.38 lakh).
Volvo XC90 Arrives in India
Volvo has officially launched the updated XC90 in India, with an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 1.03 crore. The facelift brings notable design refinements, primarily at the front, where the SUV adopts styling elements inspired by the EX90. The updated headlamps now incorporate T-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), which seamlessly merge into the reworked grille, creating a harmonised front profile.
While the side profile remains largely unchanged, the facelift introduces new alloy wheel designs for a refreshed look. At the rear, the signature vertical taillights now sport a distinctive split design, adding a sleeker, more contemporary appeal. Volvo has also expanded the colour palette, introducing a new Mulberry Red shade.

Mechanically, the XC90 facelift retains its existing powertrain, featuring a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine equipped with 48V mild-hybrid technology. This setup generates 247bhp and 360Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds and has a top speed of 180km/h. Internationally, Volvo continues to offer the XC90 in both mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid configurations, though the Indian market currently receives the mild-hybrid variant.
