Volkswagen has teased its upcoming subcompact SUV that will rival Skoda's smallest SUV yet, the Kylaq. It has named its SUV the Tera, which will be initially sold in Brazil. The Volkswagen Tera will likely use the MQB A0 IN platform that underpins the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus, as well as the Skoda Kushaq and Kylaq. Skoda has yet to launch the Kylaq on December 2 in India, but we already have its starting price, Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). It remains to be seen if and when Volkswagen plans to bring the Tera SUV to our market. If launched, the Tera will rival other compact SUVs such as the Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV3XO, and the Kia Sonet.

The initial set of teaser images gives us a brief look at the Tera's front end. Based on that, it is safe to say that the Tera will come with a sleek grille, LED headlamps, and a chrome strip. The rear end features connected LED taillamps and the big 'Tera badging. Expected bits include an unright stance, a roof-mounted spoiler, and sporty alloy wheels. Size-wise, the vehicle will measure around 4,000mm in length, making it smaller than the Taigun.

Volkswagen Tera: Engine

While yet to be confirmed, the Kylaq-rivalling Tera SUV is expected to use a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine rated for 114bhp and 178Nm of peak torque. Expected transmission options are a 6-speed manual and automatic. Volkswagen may add a sporty variant with a 1.5-litre engine and DSG transmission later.

Volkswagen Tera: Features

Inside the cabin, the Tera could have a dashboard layout similar to that of the Taigun. Soft-touch materials, a two-spoke steering wheel, and leatherette upholstery are also on the cards. We also expect the Tera to borrow ventilated front seats, a 10.0-inch touchscreen, climate control, wireless charging, and a single-pane sunroof from the Kylaq.
