The Volkswagen Tiguan is making a comeback. The new crossover SUV will feature a redesigned exterior and an updated interior, along with a turbo-petrol engine.
Volkswagen India has confirmed that the facelifted Tiguan crossover-SUV will be launched on December 7. The Volkswagen Tiguan was on sale in the Indian market some years ago, but the SUV never saw the light of day in the BS6 era. Back then, the Tiguan was sold with a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel motor.
As the Volkswagen Group India has done away with diesel engines altogether, the facelifted Tiguan will feature a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor. It is the same four-cylinder engine that powers the Skoda Superb, Octavia, and Tiguan Allspace.
The power figures of the 2022 Tiguan is expected to be close to 188bhp and 320Nm. Just like before, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic will send the power to all the wheels (AWD).
The interior is expected to get a mild makeover as well. The 2022 Tiguan is expected to feature a new 10.25-inch infotainment screen. The steering will have a new design. The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Will continue with the five-seat layout, so those looking for a seven-seat SUV can opt for the Tiguan All Space. Features such as ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and an all-digital instrument cluster are expected to be on offer as well.
The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan will rival the likes of Hyundai Tucson, Citroen C5 AirCross, and Jeep Compass. One major disadvantage of the Tiguan in comparison to its aforementioned rivals is that it lacks a diesel engine option.
