The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace receives a facelift, with a major interior overhaul and a new suite of safety net. The facelifted seven-seater SUV is likely to be launched in India by mid-2022 via the CBU route.
The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace has been updated for the model year 2022 (MY22) and sports changes to the exterior, a longer feature list, and a few mechanical changes. To begin with the exterior, the fascia of the Tiguan Allspace is in line with the facelifted Volkswagen Tiguan. The bumpers on both ends are sportier than before; however, that could be exclusive to the R-line model, and the standard model is likely to sport a relatively simpler design. The grille up front gets an all-LED strip, which extends to the redesigned headlamp assembly. The wheel sizes range from 17-inch to 20-inch, depending on the variant.
The cabin gets a major overhaul. The first thing you would notice is a newly designed steering wheel with feather-touch controls. The instrument cluster is an 8-inch all-digital unit, with an option to upgrade to a 10-inch unit to enhance the virtual cockpit experience. The centre stage is taken by the updated MIB3 infotainment system, which offers wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The creature comforts include ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, climate control, powered front seats, and a powered tailgate.
In terms of safety, the 2022 Taign Allspace gets Volkswagen's I.Q Drive suite, including forward-collision warning and autonomous emergency braking with a pedestrian monitoring system. It will also have features like blind-spot monitor, rear traffic alert, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, stop and go, travel assist semi-automated driving assistance, and semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency. In addition the I.Q Drive suite, Volkswagen also offers light assist, park assist, and dynamic road sign recognition.
The engine on offer is the same 2.0-litre unit as before; however, the gearbox is a new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic unit. The power and torque figures are lower than the model it replaces. The 2022 Tiguan Allspace puts out 181bhp and 300Nm – 6bhp and 20Nm less than before. The power is sent to all four wheels via an all-wheel-drive system.
The updated Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is likely to be launched in India by mid-2022. For now, Volkswagen will continue with the pre-facelift model in the Indian market. The Tiguan Allspace is sold as a CBU, and therefore, it's is priced at Rs 34.2 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelifted model will also follow the CBU route to India, possibly with a mild price hike.
