Volkswagen Tera SUV Unveiled in Brazil, India Launch Soon?
If launched in India, the Tera SUV will compete against the Kia Sonet, the Tata Nexon, the Hyundai Venue, the Kia Syros, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO.

Volkswagen has unveiled its new subcompact SUV, the Tera, at the Sambadrome in Rio de Janeiro during the Carnival festivities. While powertrain details remain undisclosed for now, the Tera is slated to hit Brazilian streets in the first half of 2025. Though not officially confirmed, industry reports suggest that the newly unveiled SUV could preview a model similar to the Skoda Kylaq in India, potentially priced Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 lower than its sibling, which starts at Rs 7.89 lakh. Here’s a closer look at the design and some key features of the German marque’s entry-level SUV for the Brazilian market.
Volkswagen Tera: Design

The Tera's design stands out with a sleek grille, LED headlights, and a robust front bumper with a prominent central air intake and angular side vents. The robust cladding enhances and adds to the rugged look, covering the lower edges, wheel arches, and door sills. The roofline follows a rounded profile, tapering towards the rear with a raked C-pillar and integrated spoiler.

Volkswagen Tera: Interior and Features
Inside, the Tera resembles the India-spec Skoda Kylaq, featuring a sleek dashboard, a floating touchscreen, and a digital instrument cluster. The central and vertically positioned side air vents, along with touch-sensitive AC controls, further highlight the design parallels. Other highlights include connected car technology, ambient lighting, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).
Volkswagen Tera: Powertrain
Volkswagen has yet to reveal the full details of the Tera’s powertrain, but it is expected that the international model will offer both turbo-petrol and flex-fuel engine options, providing a range of choices for various markets.
As for the India-bound version, it is anticipated to be powered by a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 113bhp and 178Nm and is paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic torque converter transmission.
