1 lakh ‘Made in India’ Volkswagen cars have been shipped to Mexico, less than two-years after the North American country started importing cars from India.

Built at Volkswagen’s manufacturing in Chakan, Pune, the 1.6-litre MPI engine powered Vento was shipped from Mumbai today, in presence of multiple high-level VW India chiefs. The sedan would reach Mexico in seven week’s time.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Carsten Goransch, Executive Director – Logistics, Volkswagen India Private Limited said, “Highest Quality is in the DNA of Volkswagen around the world. We, in Pune, have been building world class cars which have resulted in high demand for our products in the global market. The 1,00,000th car that we have shipped to Mexico today is a testimony to this fact. It makes us all at the Pune Plant extremely proud of what we have achieved so far.”

Mexico is the single largest export market for Volkswagen India, with every second car produced in the Pune plant exported to the North American country. Vento currently leads the charge, and is one of the top three selling cars in Mexico.

Volkswagen India exports locally built Polo and Vento cars to 32 countries in Asia, Africa and North America.
