Volkswagen has utilised the occasion of the Frankfurt Motor Show to display the second-generation Tiguan SUV.

Based on the MQB platform, the new Tiguan is 50kg lighter than the previous model, while offering increased interiors space at the same time. The boot, for instance, can now take on up to 615 litres of cargo.

In all, eight engine options are available, with power output ranging from 113bhp to 237bhp. Volkswagen has not only made the drives more powerful, but also have increased the fuel-efficiency by 24%.

On the safety front, the Tiguan comes equipped with Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, Lane Assist and the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.

Also on display at the venue was the Tiguan GTE - a plug-in hybrid concept capable of delivering 215bhp.
