Volkswagen’s sales surged by 57% in May 2015, with Europe’s largest car maker selling 4,167 units in India. The company sold 2,657 cars during the same period last year.

VW attributes its sales growth to the new variant of Jetta as well as its best selling Polo hatchback. The latter is the only car in the segment that comes with 4-star NCAP safety rating. The premium GT TSI version of Polo also added to the sales figure.

Commenting on the performance, Mr. Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said “We are happy to note that our sales have gone up by 57% in May 2015, on a year-on-year basis. This is a clear indication of the fact that, increasingly, car buyers in India now recognize and appreciate the key attributes of Volkswagen cars, which are best-in-class build quality and safety, efficiency and driving dynamics. We remain confident of continuing to improve our sales figures further, over the coming months.”
