Hot on the heels of unveiling the ID.3 GTX and the ID.7 GTX Tourer, Volkswagen has announced that it will take the wraps off its sporty electric van during the annual press conference to be held on March 21, 2024. The German automaker is quite reticent about offering details; however, the teaser released by the company shows a darkened silhouette, giving us a fair look at the upcoming vehicle's headlight design. While the rest of the details are yet to be revealed, we expect the Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX to feature a honeycomb grille, arrowhead-shaped LED daytime running lights, a redesigned front bumper with an air intake, the VW logo in the centre, and newly designed alloy wheels.
Under the hood, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX will get a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, churning out the same 335bhp as Volkswagen's most potent electric wagon, the ID.7 GTX Tourer. Though the firm offers no exact battery size, here are the details of the ID.7 GTX Tourer for your reference – an 86kWh battery pack that supports up to 200kW DC charging. Apart from that, expect the electric van to come with a rigid suspension setup, improved brakes, premium sports seats, IDA voice assistant, 21-inch alloy wheels (as an option), and more.
Volkswagen ID.3 GTX, ID.7 GTX Tourer Make Global Debut
Upon arrival, the performance-oriented Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX will join the recently unveiled ID.3 GTX and the ID.7 GTX Tourer in the lineup – both of which will go on sale in the European market in 2024.
The Volkswagen ID.3 GTX is the sporty version of the battery-powered ID.3. The new 'APP550' electric motor, which is the brand's 'most powerful electric drive motor to date', drives the rear wheels and generates 282bhp in the standard ID.3 GTX, whereas the GTX Performance makes 322bhp. The ID.3 GTX is powered by a 79kWh lithium-ion battery pack compatible with a 175kW DC charger. The battery — nestled in the centre of the vehicle for improved weight distribution — can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in about 26 minutes. Volkswagen estimates the combined WLTP range of the ID.3 GTX to be around 600 kilometres.
Meanwhile, the Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer is the most potent Volkswagen wagon ever built. Thanks to the all-wheel-drive setup, the sporty version of the brand's first electric wagon makes 335bhp. The ID.7 GTX Tourer makes use of dual motors – one on the front axle (107bhp) and another on the rear axle (282bhp). The power is transmitted to all wheels through a modified all-wheel-drive controller and electronic differential locks.
