The Volkswagen Golf is perhaps one of the most legendary compact hatchback cars of all time, and it just so happens that this years marks the 40th anniversary for the best selling VW model. To celebrate its grand success, the VW oldest Golf Model in existence will be on display at the Techno Classica Essen. Germany's largest classic car show. Together with other marques in the Volkswagen Group, Volkswagen Classic is celebrating with a major appearance at the world fair for vintage, classic and prestige automobiles in Essen, Germany. The event will see every generation model of the Golf, including the new seventh generation model.
To mark the anniversary of the first Volkswagen Golf, which rolled off the production line on the Mittelland Canal exactly 40 years ago, Volkswagen Classic is celebrating this special birthday at its fair stand with all the visitors in fitting style, and it ha been revealed that Hans-Joachim ‘Strietzel' Stuck, one of the best-known German-speaking racing drivers and himself an owner of a Golf I GTI, will be on hand to sign autographs.
The extent to which the Volkswagen Golf has played a significant role in the success of the VW Group can be attributed to the platform of this legendary vehicle. Even though the automaker has since expanded its range of small cars, the Golf platforms still continue to underpin multiple VW Group cars throughout the world.
