The big German car maker, Volkswagen has taken the crown for global sales in the first half of 2015 with a total of 5.04 million units sold. This means that the German carr maker has sold more than the world's largest car manufacturer Toyota.
However, the Japanese car maker is not very far behind and is just 20,000 units behind VW. Toyota has managed to sell 5.02 million units globally. And though these figures might sem impressive, they are actually lower when compared to the first half of 2014.
VW's sales went down by 0.5% while Toyota sold 1.5% fewer units. The same has also happned with General Motors as their sales dropped by 1.2% to 4.86 million units, and they have grabbed third place in the sales race.
Toyota has been the best selling car maker since 2012, but it looks like they could very well have a tough fight till the end of the year to retain that position.
In 2014 Toyota sold 10.23 million units, followed by the Volkswagen Group with 10.14 million units and General Motors with 9.92 million vehicles.
