The Volkswagen CrossBlue concept SUV was first revealed at the Detroit Motorshow this year and now its time for the CrossBlue Coupe in Shanghai. Both the Volkswagen CrossBlue SUV and CrossBlue Coupé enter the line-up as the successor to the smaller Tiguan at a price below the more luxurious Touareg. The CrossBlue Coupé retains the styling from the concept and stands at 1679 mm which is noticeably lower than the SUV concept and still lower than the BMW X6.
The raked rear screen, large exhaust outlets and the big 22 inch alloy wheels add to the sportiness of the Coupe. We also see VW’s horizontally themed corporate grille mixing with the LED headlamps enhancing the aggressiveness of the front-end of the car. Based around the German car maker’s versatile MQB platform, the CrossBlue Coupé is powered by an all-new plug-in petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. It gets the more powerful 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 unit which developes 301bhp.
The petrol engine operates in combination with a pair of electric motors – one up front with 54bhp and another at the rear with 114bhp. The three power sources provide a combined output of 409 bhp more like a sports car eh!
Mated to a six-speed, dual-clutch transmission with the ability to provide either front, rear- or four-wheel drive and five different driving modes: eco, sport, off-road, electric vehicle and charge –the CrossBlue coupe can blast from a standstill to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 237 km/h.
First to be introduced in Chinese, American and European markets VW knows how important a segment it is worldwide. We are optimistic about it coming to India but Volkswagen has a strategy in place and the CrossBlue Coupe might be included.
