Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda will not be present at the Auto Expo in 2018.
The Indian arm of the Volkswagen Group has confirmed that they will not participate in the 14th Auto Expo next year. The VW Group in India has reached upon this decision due to concerns around return of investments from the event.
The Auto Expo is organised bi-annually by the Society of Automobile manufacturers (SIAM) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). In 2018. The event will see its 14th edition and the organisers are expecting other manufacturers like Kia Motors, the PSA Group and SIAC from China, all of whom have announced to enter the Indian market in the near future, to make an appearance at the event.
Sources have confirmed to autoX that brands under the Volkswagen Group (Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda) will not appear at the upcoming Auto Expo in 2018. However, the company does hope to return for the 15th edition of the event in 2020 after assessing all options and considering their strategy at the time.
The Auto Expo is held at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, on the outskirts of Delhi. The distance between the venue and the city is also a factor that many manufacturers are taking into consideration in addition to the huge investments that have to be made. Nissan, Ford, Royal Enfield and Bajaj are currently weighing their options as well.
