The Ameo Pace is speculated to be powered by the new 1.0-litre MPI petrol engine from the Polo.
Following the launch of Vento Sport and Polo Pace special editions last month, Volkswagen has now introduced a special edition of its compact sedan, called the Ameo Pace.
Unlike the Polo Pace, the Ameo Pace is based on the top-spec highline variant of the car. It features some additional goodies like faux carbon-fibre spoiler, black outside mirrors and cruise control. The Polo Pace in contrast, only offers alloy wheels over the standard Polo comfortline.
The bigger news is that as per industry rumours, the Ameo Pace comes with the new petrol engine that recently debuted on the Polo, however, VW India’s website is yet to confirm this. The engine in question is a new 1.0-litre, naturally aspirated, 3-cylinder unit that produces 75.1bhp of max power and 95Nm of peak torque. In contrast, the 1.2-litre petrol produces 74bhp and a much higher 110Nm.
In the Polo, this new powertrain has made the car more fuel efficient - its ARAI certified economy now stands at 18.78km/l as compared to the previous 16.47km/l. It inevitable that the Ameo will benefit from a similar gain as it is mechanically very similar to the Polo.
Also, VW India’s website does not have any mention of the Ameo Pace diesel, thus hinting that the special edition model is only available with a petrol engine. It is priced at Rs 6.10 lakh (ex-showroom).
