As Volkswagen initiates booking for their brand new sub-four metre compact sedan, we take a look at the new Volkswagen Ameo, and its variants in details as to what the German manufacturer will offer wit the new car.
The Ameo will initially be available with the 1.2-litre petrol engine that does duty in the Polo. The 1.5-litre diesel engine however will be available later on and will also get a 7-speed dual clutch DSG automatic gearbox.
The Volkswagen Ameo will get safety equipment like ABS and dual front airbags as standard, offered in three different variants – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.
Trendline:
The base Trendline Volkswagen Ameo will not get the automatic option 1.5-litre diesel engine. But will get 12V power outlet, Foldable rear seat backrest, Manually adjustable ORVMs, Front power windows, Central locking, Tilt and telescopic steering wheel and a Driver dead pedal.
Comfortline:
In addition to the features on the Trendline, the Volkswagen Ameo in Comfortline trim will be offered with first in class Cruise control, Dual-beam headlamps, Dual-tone interiors, Cooled glovebox, Ambient lighting, Height-adjustable driver seat, Electrically adjustable ORVMs, Power windows for all four doors, Front fog lamps, 4-speaker audio system with CD/MP3 player with USB, aux-in and SD card input and Bluetooth connectivity. The diesel automatic option will also get ESP traction control with Hill-start assist as well.
Highline:
Including all the features from the Trendline and Comfortline, the Volkswagen Ameo Highline will get Alloy wheels, Leather-wrapped steering and door knob, Reverse parking camera and sensors, Rain-sensing wipers, Arm rests, Rear AC vents, Automatic climate control, Electrically foldable ORVMs, Auto-dimming internal rear-view mirror, Rear defogger, Touchscreen infotainment system and Voice command with a multifunction steering wheel.
The highly competitive sub-four metre sedan segment currently consists of the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xcent and the Tata Zest. But Volkswagen plans to price the Ameo slightly more premium in comparison to the competition once it is launched in June 2016 in India.
