Volkswagen begins deliveries of its new Ameo compact sedan.
Volkswagen India has commenced deliveries of its new Ameo compact sedan. Bookings for the car had opened on the 12th of May 2016 when the German car maker had also commenced the road show for the car. Based on the Polo premium hatchback, the Ameo is being marketed as a premium offering in the compact sedan space. And rightfully so as the new VW Ameo features upmarket interiors with quality materials and fit and finish, just like every other Volkswagen out there. In order to make the Ameo live up to its premium quotient, Volkswagen has also loaded it with lots of equipment and safety features to give it a class leading equipment list.
Some of the equipment highlights for the car include segment firsts such as cruise control, rain sensing wipers, anti-pinch power windows, static bending lights, touchscreen multimedia system with Mirror link connectivity, etc.
Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, commented on the beginning of deliveries for the car by saying, “The Ameo has garnered positive response from the prospective customers ever since its debut at the Delhi Motor Show in February this year and its journey through key Indian cities. We are very happy to bring this Made in India and Made for India sedan to our customers now, as we initiate the deliveries. For the Ameo customers, we have also introduced special care packages to ensure a positive ownership experience along with the best of technology, safety and various first in class features at an attractive price. We look forward to continuing this momentum, especially with the festive season kicking in.”
As of now, the Volkswagen Ameo is only available with a single powertrain option of a 1.2 litre, three cylinder petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The unit develops 74bhp of max power @ 5,400 rpm and 110Nm of peak torque @ 3,750 rpm. It comes with an ARAI rated fuel efficiency figure of 17.83 km/l.
Prices for the Volkswagen Ameo range between Rs. 5.39 lakh to Rs. 7.23 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Volkswagen is expected to launch the diesel fueled version of the car later in the year. It will come powered by the 1.5 litre, four cylinder turbo diesel mill currently doing duty in the Polo and Vento. This version will also be launched with a seven-speed double clutch automatic transmission aside from a standard five-speed manual, making it the only fully automatic (read non-AMT) diesel compact sedan in the country.
