Ford launches its updated 2015 EcoSport with a more powerful diesel engine, LED daytime running lamps and a new mid-level Trend+ variant
Ford India has updated its EcoSport compact SUV with a more powerful diesel engine while daytime running LEDs have been incorporated in the head lamps. Ford has also added a new Trend+ mid-level variant for the compact SUV. The move comes at a time when the compact SUV segment in India is bursting with activity. Hyundai has launched its all-new Creta, Mahindra launched the automatic version of its Scorpio a couple months ago and Maruti Suzuki launched its S-Cross crossover in the same price bracket.
The 1.5 litre, four cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine in the Ford EcoSport is now tweaked to deliver a maximum power output of 100PS @ 3,750 rpm as compared to the earlier model’s 91PS of max power @ 3,750 rpm. Maximum torque output has gone up by 1Nm to 205PS between 1,750 rpm and 3,250 rpm as compared to the earlier model’s 204Nm of peak torque between 2,000 rpm and 2,750 rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. ARAI rated efficiency figure for the new EcoSport diesel is pegged at 22.27 km/l.
Ford also offers the EcoSport with the option of a 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine with a five-speed manual gearbox and a 1.5 litre petrol engine with a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed double clutch automatic gearbox.
The new Trend+ variant comes loaded with remote central locking, dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution, a double-DIN stereo with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio controls, climate control, power windows, driver information display, front fog lamps, height adjustable driver’s seat, rear defogger and wash wipe.
“With more than 200,000 proud owners and counting, Ford EcoSport has successfully created a benchmark and continues to be received extremely well for its quality and value package across the globe,” said Nigel Harris, president and managing director, Ford India. “Ahead of the festive season, we have made our clever, compact SUV even more stylish with a host of smart features and enhanced power to delight consumers.”
The Ford EcoSport has gone on to become the most successful model for Ford in India. Thanks to its sub four meter length, the car complies with Indian compact car norms allowing it to avail lower taxation. This combined with its SUV stance has made the Ford EcoSport affordable and desirable at the same time. In August of 2015, Ford sold 3,137 units of the EcoSport in India.
Prices for the new 2015 Ford EcoSport range between Rs. 6.79 lakh to Rs. 10.44 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
