Tata Motors is all set to increase its share in the Indian automotive market with a couple of new car launches – the Altroz Racer, Nexon CNG, and the Curvv.  Though official launch dates of these models are yet to be announced, they are likely to go on sale in the coming months. Tata Motors was the third best-selling car brand in April. It sold 47,885 vehicles last month, representing a 1.9% year-on-year growth in comparison to 47,010 units sold in April 2023. However, its month-on-month sales declined by approximately 3,000 units or 4.4% in the preceding month. To further strengthen its competitive edge, Tata Motors intends to launch the Nexon iCNG, Curvv, and Altroz Racer in India soon. Let's take a closer look at these models.

Tata Nexon iCNG

The Nexon i-CNG made its debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year and is likely to be available for sale soon. Tata Motors currently offers the Nexon in India in three fuel types – electric, diesel, and petrol. With the addition of the new CNG option, the Nexon will become the only car in the nation to be offered with all four types of powertrains.

Except for a few CNG-specific modifications, the upcoming Nexon will retain most of its design cues with its petrol/diesel-powered sibling. It will come with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a factory-installed twin-cylinder CNG kit. Although the power and torque figures are yet to be revealed, they are expected to be lower than those of its petrol-based sibling (118bhp and 170Nm).

The compact SUV has 230 litres of cargo space and an estimated cylinder capacity of 60 litres. It comes with a micro switch, a single advanced ECU, a modular fuel filter, leak detection failure, direct start in CNG mode, leakage-proof materials, thermal incident protection, and an auto fuel switch, among other features.

Tata Curvv

The Tata Curvv will probably hit Indian roads in the second part of 2024. The EV version will go on sale first, followed by the ICE variant. The former (EV) is likely to be offered in single and dual-motor configurations, with the choice between front- and all-wheel drive. Furthermore, it is expected to provide a range of 400 – 500 kilometres on a single charge. The latter (ICE variant) is expected to come with the same powertrain options as the Nexon, i.e., a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol unit, producing 118bhp and 170Nm, and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine, which generates 113bhp and 260Nm. The gearbox choices include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT, and a 7-speed DCT.

Price-wise, the ICE Curvv could cost between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 11 lakh, while the EV version may retail for Rs 20 lakh. Both variants will compete with a range of models in their respective segments, such as the Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG ZS EV, and Hyundai Kona Electric.

Tata Altroz Racer

The Altroz will likely be available for purchase in India in the first week of June. It will be placed above the Tata Altroz XZ iTurbo, which costs between Rs 9.20 lakh and Rs 10.10 lakh, in the range. The Altroz Racer is expected to be propelled by the same 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that powers the Tata Nexon. For transmission, it will, however, get a 6-speed manual unit.

The hatch's feature list may include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear AC vents, a wireless charger, a heads-up display, a voice-assisted sunroof, aluminium pedals, ventilated front seats, six airbags, ESC (electronic stability control), and a 360-degree surround camera. In terms of price, the Tata Altroz Racer is expected to retail for around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
