Several new vehicles are expected to be launched in the coming months by leading carmakers like Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, and Toyota Kirloskar Motor. Some of the top upcoming SUVs in India include the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door, Fronx, Tata Motors Punch CNG, and the Red and Black Editions of the Tata Motors Harrier and Safari SUVs. These vehicles were showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 and bookings for some of them, like the Jimny, are already underway. Maruti Suzuki has also recently raised the booking amount for the Jimny 5-Door from Rs 11,000 to Rs 25,000. So, let's find out more about the top upcoming SUVs in India.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door
Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door SUV will be available in two trims, Zeta and Alpha, in the Indian market. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 130Nm of torque and will come paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. The SUV will be available in seven colour options. Inside, it will have a touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted controls, a 360-degree camera, cruise control, a wireless charger, and an analogue instrument dashboard with a MID. Safety features of the vehicle will include dual front airbags, side and curtain airbags, a brake limited slip differential, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold control, hill descent control, and brake assist. The price of the model is yet to be disclosed by the carmaker, but it is expected to range between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG will have a maximum power output of 87bhp and a peak torque of 121.5Nm, which is less than the standard version (102bhp and 137Nm). The SUV will be powered by the same 1.5L K15C petrol engine that powers the standard model, which will be paired with a factory-installed CNG kit. The CNG version will come equipped with several features that are currently available with the standard variant, including a 9.0-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system, rear AC vents, connected car technology, Alexa compatibility, Head-Up Display, voice command support, wireless charging, ambient lighting, Arkamys sound system, a sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera, USB Type-C and Type-A rear charging ports and 6 airbags. The official details of the upcoming CNG model are yet to be unveiled but, it is expected that it will be priced around Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 more than the petrol variants.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx
Maruti Suzuki Fronx will be offered with two petrol engine options: a 1.2-litre K-Series Dual Jet Dual VVT engine, which produces 113Nm of torque at 4,400rpm and 89bhp at 6,000rpm, and a 1.0-litre K-Series turbo petrol engine, which makes 147.6Nm of torque between 2,000rpm and 4,500rpm and 99bhp at 5,500rpm. The design of the SUV is based on the current-gen Grand Vitara and the Baleno.
The front fascia of the upcoming model is similar to that of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. On the sides, it gets new alloy wheels, body cladding, and roof rails. There are no changes in the cabin, which is similar to the Baleno’s and will feature a floating touchscreen infotainment system, a wireless charger, a flat-bottom steering wheel, a 360-degree camera, cruise control, and six airbags, among others.
The upcoming SUV is expected to cost Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The Fronx will not directly compete with any model in India, but it may serve as an alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Tata Punch, the Citroen C3, and others. The new SUV with a coupe-like styling will go on sale in April 2023.
2023 Toyota Innova Crysta
Toyota India has reportedly made plans to manufacture 2,000 to 2,500 units of the redesigned Innova Crysta per month from the beginning of February 2023. The upcoming model is likely to get a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine with a CNG fuel option. Reportedly, a 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine will also be on offer. Further, Toyota is also likely to slightly tweak both the exterior and the interior of the upcoming model to give it a fresh look.
In the previous month, the carmaker launched the brand-new Innova Hycross at prices ranging between Rs 18.30 lakh and Rs 28.97 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). The Toyota Innova Hycross, which is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, comes in five different configurations: G, GX, VX, ZX, and ZX (O). When redesigned Innova Crysta will be launched, it will go on sale alongside the all-new Innova Hycross in India. The new 2023 Toyota Innova Crysta is expected to cost between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 23 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).

Tata Harrier & Safari Red And Black Editions
The new Tata Harrier and Safari Red and Black Editions were recently displayed at the Auto Expo 2023 and will soon be launched, with several cosmetic improvements over the standard variants. In terms of features, the Tata Harrier and Safari versions will be equipped with an updated touchscreen and ADAS technology.
Both SUVs are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which delivers 350Nm of maximum torque and 168bhp of maximum power. Both models are available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Although no specific date has been revealed, Tata has stated that the upcoming variants would be released this year. The pricing of the Tata Harrier SUV model currently ranges from Rs 14.80 lakh to Rs 22.35 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Tata Safari costs between Rs 15.45 lakh and Rs 23.76 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
Tata Punch CNG
The soon-to-be-launched Tata Punch CNG will be powered by the same 1.2-litre 3-cylinder NA petrol engine that powers the standard variant, but the power and torque outputs will be lesser at 72bhp and 95Nm. It will have a 5-speed manual transmission and could also get an AMT transmission as an option. The upcoming four-wheeler will be packed with several features, including projector headlamps, 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a rear parking camera, automatic climate control, and others. Although the Punch's CNG variant’s exterior, interior, and design details have not been made public, it is assumed that they will be the same as the standard model.
For safety, the car will come equipped with front dual airbags, ESP and brake assist (Electronic Stability Programme), ABS and EBD, rear-view mirror camera, parking sensors at the front and rear, etc. The upcoming B1-segment SUV's price has not been revealed by the carmaker, but it is expected to cost between Rs 7.75 lakh (ex-showroom) and 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom) in the country.
