Just when we were anticipating the launch of the facelift Skoda Kodiaq SUV, the carmaker has dropped a teaser of its upcoming mid-size premium sedan, the Skoda Slavia.
Skoda has finally confirmed the name of its upcoming mid-size sedan. The Czech carmaker has dubbed its new sedan the Slavia. The Skoda Slavia will slot between the Octavia and the Rapid which are currently on sale in the Indian market.
The Skoda Slavia will be based on the Indianised version of the MQB-A0 platform i.e the MQB-A0-IN. It is the same platform that underpins the Skoda Kushaq SUV as well.
Skoda has confirmed that the Slavia will be pitched as a premium mid-size sedan so expect it to debut with premium features such as ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof and a more sophisticated version of Skoda's connected car tech.
In terms of powertrain choices, the Skoda Slavia will borrow the same engine options from the Skoda Kushaq. Expect a 1.0-litre and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine on offer along with optional automatic gearbox options.
Most likely Skoda India will sell the Slavia and the Rapid alongside each other. The Slavia will be positioned in the same segment as the current Hyundai Elantra. We suspect that Skoda will pull the plug on the Rapid by the end of next year and that will make the Slavia the most affordable Skoda sedan on sale.
The Skoda Slavia is likely to carry a price tag between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). The India launch is expected in the coming months and the deliveries are likely to commence by January 2022.
